The Borders Carers Centre develops services in response to identified local needs. These include:

Carers Support Plan

Both the Carers Act 1999 and the Health and Community Care (Scotland) Act 2002, entitle carers  to an assessment (now referred to as the Carers Support Plan) in their own right.  This means that carers can ask for their own needs to be assessed in relation to the person they care for.  Even if the person they care for does not receive or want support.

Carers Act

The Carers Act, became law in April 2016 and it extends and enhances the rights of carers.  It aims to ensure better and more consistent support for carers so that they can continue to care, if they so wish, in better health and to have a life alongside caring.

There is no doubt that without the right support caring can all too easily damage your health.  It is not an easy balance to find, but remember – the better you look after your physical and emotional wellbeing, the better you will be able to cope with the demands of caring.
