Carers represent a significant part of the working age population, both in the workplace, and in the wider labour market.

They are likely to represent around 1 in 7 of your workforce as well as being a valuable source of recruitment. As both the population and workforce ages, more and more people will be combining paid employment with caring in their home lives and it is vitally important for employers to support and retain these valued members of staff.

The Carer Positive framework helps employers develop carer friendly policies and workplace practice, benefiting the health and wellbeing of staff, and contributing to workforce management aims in relation to recruitment and retention, inclusion, employee engagement, as well as wider social responsibility aims.

Becoming recognised as a Carer Positive Employer also aligns with the Scottish Government aspirations around Fair Work and is highlighted as an example of best practice. Similarly, it can help demonstrate commitment to supporting disadvantaged groups within wider funding and commissioning processes and generally enhances organisational reputation as an ‘employer of choice’.

The Carer Positive scheme is free to participate in, with support, resources and networking events available to all employers who take part.

I would be very grateful if you could register your interest in the proposed event by 25th January 2025. Depending on numbers, the event will take place in either the Roxburgh or Business Suite at Council HQ and this will be confirmed nearer the time
