Learning to Live & Reconnect – a Musical journey (Take a Breath)
As part of our Take a Breath project, join us for a Music sessions with parent carers where a group will meet up to share music that means something to you and has helped get you through difficult times. By the end of the session, we will have compiled a Carers Playlist of tracks to soothe, heal, uplift and build resilience for all carers.
Music has a power to affect changes in mood, improve self-esteem and the overall mental mindset, and the sharing experience of the project will foster a supportive and healing environment.
Not only does music help with emotional pain, but it also is proven to help alleviate physical pain too, as well as allowing new pathways to self expression to open up as music is processed in the brain in a different way to verbal speech.
“Having used music therapy to deal with a past trauma, I know exactly how much music can help. Certain songs have really pulled me through some very dark times in my life, and when I hear these tracks again, I am reminded of how strong I am and feel lifted and encouraged. When I first started coming to the Carers Support Group, I was amazed by how acknowledged I felt. Other people simply don’t understand the difficulties and challenges we face as parent carers, and can be quite glib, saying things like ‘Oh, well. It’ll get better’. Being with other parent carers who feel your pain means you don’t have to explain yourself, or your child. I recently shared some of the tracks that mean something to me with other carers, which, in turn, led them to share with me. The conversation was so cathartic, and I really think it would be very powerful to compile a playlist for carers to turn to when things overwhelm them”
