Winter Covid Vaccine

Unpaid carers will not be called to receive the vaccine this Winter.

The Scottish Government has followed the advice from JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation)and will only be offering the vaccine to the following groups:

⭕️living or working in a care home for older adults
⭕️aged 65 and over
⭕️aged 6 months and over with an eligible health condition
⭕️pregnant
⭕️a frontline health or social care worker

We know that many unpaid carers will be disappointed to hear this, particularly as the offer of a Covid Vaccine is being made available to frontline health and care staff in Scotland to protect their health.

Following on from our update about the decision from Scottish Government to exclude unpaid carers from the COVID-19 vaccination list, a letter has now been issued to the First Minister from our colleagues at Coalition of Carers In Scotland and VOCAL Edinburgh and we await a response.

Media interest has been expressed in the letter and we are looking for unpaid carers to be interviewed about their views on this topic. If you would be interested in taking part, please email Lora Vernon, Head of Digital and Communications at lvernon@vocal.org.uk
